How to start your chapter
We've made it as simple as possible. Here's the step-by-step process.
Find 2-3 passionate women who share your vision. You'll need a core team to get started — ideally with different skills (organising, social media, first aid, etc.).
We provide comprehensive training covering everything from volunteer management to safety protocols, safeguarding, and community engagement. Training is free and delivered online.
All WSW chapters operate under our group insurance policy, covering public liability, volunteers, and activities. Insurance costs are covered centrally — no cost to you.
Use our branding, templates, and social media toolkit. We'll support you with promotional materials, volunteer onboarding resources, and ongoing mentorship.
Starting costs & funding
Starting a chapter requires minimal upfront investment. Here's what you'll need and how to fund it.
Crowdfunding
Run a GoFundMe or community fundraiser. Most chapters raise £500-1000 in their first campaign.
Local Grants
Apply for community safety grants from your local council or community foundations.
Launch Event Fundraiser
Host a ticketed launch party, quiz night, or sponsored walk to raise your starting funds.
WSW Seed Funding
Limited seed grants available for chapters in priority areas. Contact us to apply.
All WSW chapters operate under our centralised group insurance policy, which includes:
- Public Liability Insurance up to £5 million
- Volunteer Personal Accident Cover
- Equipment & Property Insurance
- Legal Expenses Cover
Insurance is renewed annually and costs are covered by WSW nationally. Your chapter does not pay for insurance.
